Maltyard, Woodbridge

Malt Yard is a development of 29 one and two bedroom apartments, built on the site of an old malt house and takes its design inspiration from the nearby quayside buildings on the picturesque River Deben. The timber and brick clad exterior, spacious interiors and wooden floors are suggestive of elegant loft style living, in keeping with the rich heritage and character of its surroundings. Around the public facing parts of the building the garden is filled with ornamental grasses, as a reference to the barley used to produce malt. The more private courtyard garden within the development consists of a lawn surrounded by a pergola with climbing plants and seating. The structural design reflects the malting barn steel roof. The interior communal spaces open out into this garden, creating the social heart of the community.
