Lakeshore, Bristol

In Bristol, the Grade II Listed former headquarters for Imperial Tobacco is set in a mature green 4.65ha site, spanning a man made lake. This remarkable 1970s landscape has been sensitively converted by the developer Urban Splash, respecting the original design but inserting a contemporary, innovative layer of landscape that relates to its new residential live/work use and the expressive duality of the site building context. The development created 358 new homes and some commercial space at the heart of the regeneration of Hartcliffe. The landscape proposals have been developed in consultation with both the local resident community and the ecological community. Although a private site, public access to Lakeshore for fishing groups, local schools and river wildlife groups was essential in developing a new resident population in harmony with the existing.

“Camlins were selected from a distinctly high quality field for their innovative and insightful view of the listed building and its landscape setting. They have produced a creative but deliverable design solution, which is in harmony with the building. The team are dedicated, focused and a pleasure to work with.”
